BBC’s story, Cannabis ‘should remain class C’, reports the latest ruling on a controversial issue. This is on of those issues that never seem to reflect reality. I encourage anyone desiring to understand how cannabis was outlawed in the first place, visit norml’s website for clarity. I believe the average person would be surprised to learn the logic and facts the government used to inact this law. Whether you use cannabis or not, you might be surprised what you learn about the gateway drug. Put it this way, I haven’t seen any facts to support it’s ban from at least, medical use. The argument used by the government at that time was debatably weak. The government has been in the business of using “fear” for some time now. They attempt to scare the pubic in to cooperating with laws that undermine their freedoms; another example would be the “Patriot Act”. Many cannabis users wonder if the real reason they banned cannabis is to prevent the free thought, peace, and unity resulting from the high they experience after smoking the drug. Maybe there are a harmful side effects from the use of the drug, but so does most of the drugs the pharmaceutical industry endorses. Point is the public doesn’t need the government to save us from ourselves, they should concentrate on protecting us from our enemies.

Florida’s apology for slavery is a SMALL step in reconciling racial divisions. The concerns from the African American perspective of this resolution, is that this State and others feel that this apology IS the resolution for the sins of slavery. We want the States and the country to understand that the erosion of the African American communities from the sins of slavery and Jim Crow, cannot be resolved by a long overdue, and what should not have been a difficult apology. As an African American, we’re withholding our forgiveness until some kind of reparations package from slavery is implemented. Many whites and a small number of African Americans feel that reparations aren’t necessary because African Americans now have what they believe is equal opportunity under the law. It is true that African Americans now share that security, but it does not address the the erosion of wealth and prosperity lost to them over the last two hundred years of discrimination, especially when discrimination still exist in institutions across America today. African Americans have made some progress over the years, mostly by self determination and not to the efforts of reconciliation from state and federal governments. Therefore the progress has been subtle and has caused resentment on both sides of the racial divide. African Americans don’t necessarily hold the Whites Americans accountable for those sins, but we do recognize it was their Grandfathers and Great Grandfathers that contributed and profited from slavery and the future erosion of the Black communities. If Whites ancestry can be traced back to have benefited from the oppression of slavery, then they do have some obligation to be part of the resolution to uplift the Black community, wither it be monetary, or their support for reparations from the Federal Government for it’s legal support of slavery and the erosion that followed it. The world justifiably felt it was necessary to reward Jews from the tragedy of the Holocaust; why then the resistance to African Americans for the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade that far exceeded the horror’s we saw of the Holocaust. As a African American I can only assume, it has everything to do with racism being alive and well in the hearts of the leaders of the world today. It pains me to say that, I wonder why my Government and certain classes that form it, think America has no obligation to correct the damage we inflict world wide after we launch destructive campaigns against others. America hosted the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade, America invaded Iraq without cause or evidence of wrong doing and slaughtered thousands, and we have the audacity to shed our responsibility to the reconstruction of the damage we inflicted on innocent people. I’m not Farrakhan or Pastor Wright, nor is my accountability inflammatory or unpatriotic, it’s simply the truth, and I think that’s the reason why it upsets certain classes of people; because, the truth hurts.

I am not a supporter of extremism but I do believe it’s important that we don’t allow the government to restrict the American people from hearing messages from our alleged enemies. It raises suspicion of a possible government cover up and certainly one sided propaganda. The restriction prevents the people from understanding the reasons our enemies hate and attack us, but allows

our government to present a bias view of their position. I think it’s import that we don’t take the government at it’s word. They aren’t what you’d consider honest with the American people. They seem to believe they understand these things better than the average citizen and that the average citizen cant handle the truth, so they need to shelter us from the unspeakable things our government is involved in. In other words they lie about the role we may have played that produced the Islamic extremist. The military bases, forced democracy, disrespect for their religion and culture have produced these extremist, not our freedoms as the President said in his 2004 “State Of The Union” speech. Needless to say that was the lamest reason to give to justify their actions. Not that their actions can be justified, it’s just hard to believe he had the audacity to say it. What’s even more unbelievable is the American people bought it, but that’s to be expected when the other view is not present. Our government is cleaver at manipulating the American people into the belief they want them to have. They use patriotism as the device to create sentiment for their agenda. If they can convince the people that it’s their patriotic duty to rise to the occasion and be victorious in our endeavors. Those power drunk advocates would use that argument against this article. When they get done revoking our constitutional right to free speech we will no longer possess the right to question the governments motives it will be defined as unpatriotic.

What I hear is a man speaking the truth about the reality of the war. Five years since the war ended, you barely hear the term WMD(Weapons of Mass Destruction) mentioned, remember? Remember the outrage and attempted impeachment of Bill Clinton for something as petty and personal as lying about an affair he had. It’s unbelievable those same critics wasn’t outraged about this President and his administrations lies about the alleged WMD and the perceived eminent threat of danger; not to mention the attempted connection to Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden. As the saga continues you have the failure of the administration to act on Hurricane Katrina, the CIA spy leak, election scandals, Abu Grave scandal, Guantanamo Bay detainees, etc, etc, etc. All these thing combined haven’t risen to level of impeachment to the hardliners. Surely these political hardliners would be outraged over this level of incompetence and scandal. Mysteriously there’s been very little speak of impeachment from congressional members. It appears they define the ability to lead is based on personal shortcomings instead of job performance and productivity. These same congressional members place more priority on the soap opera of professional sports. Instead of concentrating on the nations business such as the war, hurricane Katrina recovery, health care, social security, unemployment, racial division, and host of many other critical issues, they have been compelled to investigate the baseball steroids scandal and basketball’s corrupt officials; two major issues related to our national security? Perhaps their motives are related to discrepancies in bets with their bookies. Nothing else can explain the priority they placed on something so meaningless. Ultimately the most blame must be placed squarely on ourselves, the American people for allowing such incompetence to take place; for not playing our constitutional role of policing our leaders we elected to represent our priorities. If our elected congress wont fire the President, then we need too; then fire congress for undermining the the will of the people.
